Craft beer and family fun at the Emerald Vale Brewery

BY LIESL SILVERMAN - JULY 23, 2018

Situated in the lush, green, rolling hills between the Chintsa and Chefani River, Emerald Vale Brewery is unmistakably named after its beautiful Wild Coast surroundings.

Located on the Emerald Vale Farm, only a 30-minute drive from East London, is the brewery, a restaurant, a shop, outdoor entertainment facilities and accommodation.

Emerald Vale offers excellent craft beer, warm hospitality, moreish meals, live music events and fun outdoor activities for the whole family. Adults and children can enjoy the hiking trails, trail runs, x-track races and mountain biking, all on the premises.

The restaurant has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with large wooden trestle tables decorated with jars of flowers, a pub, indoor and outdoor sections and a cosy fireplace at the heart of the restaurant. It is the perfect place to have a meal with your friends or family.

The menu has a good selection of hearty pub and grub food such as burgers, steaks and pulled pork sandwiches. However, there are also vegetarian options and a kids menu.

Brewer, Chris Heaton, produces four different types of craft ale – the Pale Ale, Gold Ale, Amber Ale and the Dark Ale. My favourite is the Pale Ale, which is a single malt blonde style beer that has a subtle passion fruit and citrus flavour, perfect for the summer.

The self-catering, accommodation consists of a two-bedroom cottage, which is walking distance from the restaurant and brewery and only a 5-minute drive to the beautiful local beach of Chintsa East.

The cottage has two bedrooms and sleeps four guests. There is an open-plan lounge and fully equipped kitchen, as well as a private garden. Guests have full access to the restaurant, hiking trails, children’s playground and picnic spots.

Emerald Vale Brewery can also host corporate events, team building workshops and special celebrations, which are catered for by the restaurant and brewery.

Families love coming to Emerald Vale because their children are thoroughly entertained with a jumping castle, jungle gym, slides and swings. Green thumbs can delight in the assortment of succulents, flowers and shrubs on offer at Emeraldvale Nursery located on the farm.

For those, who are curious as to how the craft beer is made, there is even a 45-minute brewery tour where you will hear the history of the brewery, get insights into how the beer is made and receive a tasting tray of four ales.

With great family entertainment, delicious food and beautiful surroundings, the hills really are alive at Emerald Vale Brewery.
