Visit Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary

Nestled in the heart of The Crags along the scenic Garden Route - only 10 minutes from Plettenberg Bay, lies Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary, a place where young and old can enjoy learning about and interacting with creatures they wouldn’t normally get the chance to…!

Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary offers hourly tours where you can admire over 100 snakes and other reptiles. Geared with my camera in hand, I was ready to face my fears.

The tour consists of an indigenous snake pit, where we watched our guide jump in, to demonstrate how to react if you encounter one in the wild. Along the way we even got to hold some of the non-venomous snakes and admire them from up-close. There are

various outdoor exhibits which keep with our bigger Cobras, Mambas and Adders, and a large dome housing both South African and exotic snakes. We also got the chance to see and learn more about their enormous pythons, monitor lizards and crocodiles.

Our friendly tour guide, Albert, was extremely knowledgeable and his witty remarks and great sense of humour had us in stitches. The children in our group were hanging onto this modern-day hero’s every word.

We loved our visit to Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary and left with loads of photos!

Visitors can also enjoy a forest walk and make use of their tranquil picnic spots or relax at the tea room and explore the curio shop. Open everday 9-5. No need to book.
