Hildesheim Guest House has it all for anyone needing a break

BY TAI CHISHAKWE - AUGUST 8, 2017

With panoramic views of the majestic Outeniqua Mountains and set in the peaceful village of Hoekwil, just 10 kilometres from Wilderness in the Garden Route, Hildesheim Guest House offers the ideal retreat for families and romantic couples needing a break from the city humdrum.

Hildesheim has it all - the fresh country air to fill your lungs, breath-taking views, mountains, lush natural forests, wildlife, rivers, lagoons and white sandy beaches.

During a recent stay at Hildesheim, I found the hospitality outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for my hosts, Tony and Vanessa, the owners, who went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and memorable.

Hildesheim Guest House offers two spacious and tastefully decorated self-catering cottages and four bed and breakfast suites. There are two Garden Suites, a Family Suite next to a pool that can sleep four people, and a Honeymoon Suite that is also located next to the pool.

For large groups, there are also spacious two-bedroom self-catering Garden Cottages. From all the rooms, one can enjoy panoramic views of the area right from your private deck or from the large pool set in the guesthouse’s gardens.

The rooms are well-equipped for comfortable stays and I also found them super clean right down to the linen. I stayed in one of the Garden Suites, which I found perfect for quiet individual, family or romantic weekends away.

My room had a coffee/tea station, and upon entering, a glass of sherry was waiting as a reprieve from the cold weather. The breakfast menu was also sitting on the table for the next morning.

Once I settled in, I relaxed on my private deck. I later ventured out to one of the nearby restaurants for dinner and got to meet some of the area’s friendly residents.

The next morning I was served a hearty classic farmhouse breakfast in the dining room. It included a choice of fresh juice, filter coffee, homemade jams, yoghurt, crisp toast, cereal as well as bacon and eggs. It was delicious!

There is plenty to do at Hildesheim from mountain hikes and bird watching, which can be organised through the guesthouse, to relaxing with sundowners next to the pool in the late afternoon.

Hildesheim’s convenient location also means that you are ideally placed to explore everything that the Garden Route has to offer. This place is full of adventure activities including paragliding, mountain biking, whale-watching, horse riding, scenic drives, ferry cruises and angling. Tony was most keen to share some pointers given his knowledge of the area.
