While peering through God’s Window, a popular vantage point from where you can enjoy majestic views of the Mpumalanga Lowveld’s lush forests, rivers, canyons and towering cliffs, you will understand why the area is fondly called Paradise Country.
Located in this paradise, about 5km from Hazyview towards Sabie River Valley, is Oppi Plaas Abek – the perfect place for farm-style getaways in the region.
“I was filled with excitement and anticipation as we made our rather scenic drive to the farm. “
Upon arrival, we were met by the farm’s friendly permanent residents, dog Sally and cats, Oreo and Garfield, while the farm owners, Sandy and Frik Potgieter, followed closely behind. I must say I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the farm and the utter peacefulness of its surroundings.
Oppi Plaas Abek has four affordable self-catering family chalets, which really give you the feeling of living on a farm. I found them spacious, neat and clean with beautiful solid-wood furniture.
While the Family suites are wheelchair accessible, all the chalets come with clean beds, and have access to a communal swimming pool, swings for the kids to enjoy, DSTV, free Wi-Fi, fans in each room for those hot summer days, a shower as well as a bath and a braai facility.
Besides a fully-equipped kitchen, each chalet has its own private patio, which allows for a soothing feeling as you take in the sights and smells of the many Litchi trees found in the area with a sundowner in hand. Everything that you may need – shops, doctors, chemist, restaurants, etc. is also just 10 minutes away.
Living in Mpumalanga, and knowing how the weather can be, I must say was even happier that every chalet has its own lock up garage for cars. It is obvious Sandy and Frik have done their homework when it comes to ensuring the comfort of their guests.

The farm is also within reach of other adventure offerings – from hot air ballooning, to elephant rides and anything in-between. Nature lovers will be happy to hear that the Hazyview area is home to 300 butterfly, 450 bird, 3 000 plant, and 150 mammal species.
