Have fun at Mpumalanga Parks Week

AUGUST 15, 2018

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will again open some of its nature reserves for Mpumalanga Parks Week from 17 to 21 September.
Parks Week encourages locals to visit the MTPA’s nature reserves during Tourism Month, in September, to promote a culture of travel and create awareness about our natural heritage.
MTPA introduced Parks Week in 2015 and since then a number of people have taken advantage of this offer.

The national initiative is a worldwide campaign that was introduced in South Africa in 2006 because most South Africans do not have access to national parks. The idea is to encourage South Africans to take pride in the environment and our heritage sites. By so doing they will start to take care of natural resources and will understand the importance of conservation.
During this period day visitors will be allowed to enter the identified nature reserves free of charge. The free access into selected nature reserves is strictly for day visitors only and does not include accommodation and other tourism activities on offer at these reserves.

Visitors must present their South African identity document or valid South African driver’s licence when entering the parks.
The following nature reserves will be open during Parks Week:

Kromdraai Camp
Loskop Dam
Ohrigstad Dam
Mahushe Shongwe
SS Skosana
Blyde River Canyon (free entry only on 20 September 2018)
