Smokers - put waste in its place

JANUARY 30, 2018

Overstrand Municipality once again appeals to residents, business owners and staff not to dispose of cigarette butts into the storm water drain.

If you are going to smoke, put your cigarette butts in the trash - not out the car window, not in the gutter, not on the lawn, and not in a stream or the ocean.

PLEASE smokers - use a portable cigarette butt holder available on the market or something as simple as an empty bottle or can laden with a bit of water to dispose of butts.

Bins are conveniently located throughout our towns and parking lots. Use them.

If you see someone flicking cigarette butts in the storm water drain or out the car window, report the incident to law enforcement on 028 313 8980 or to the Overstrand control room on 028 313 8000/8111.

• Businesses looking for permanent cigarette butt litter solutions can contact the Whale Coast Conservation (WCC) for a designed butt bin. For more information, contact them on 028 316 2527.
