Quaggaskloof Dam - a water sport paradise

Summer is here and it’s time to play! What better place than a dam to quell the summer heat? Just outside Worcester, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town, is a water sport paradise called Quaggaskloof Dam.

If you travel on the R43, from Worcester towards Villiersdorp (15.2km), you need to look out for the local power station on your left. In front of this power station is a white building with a red roof. Turn right onto the paved road till you reach the main gate. Do not use GPS, you will get lost!

Quaggaskloof Dam has a clubhouse, camping site and private houses. Upon arrival, we met with the resort managers, Eljo and Peter. They have been managing the resort for the last 18 years. Eljo showed us photos of how the resort has developed over the years to become the great water sport paradise it is today.

“Over the many years, we have so many visitors that now have become like family as they return every year,” she said.

The clubhouse is the central point of the resort and hosts a Cash Bar and pop-up restaurant/tuck shop in season. The clubhouse is also available to hire for private functions.

The glamour of camping

Quaggaskloof has 26 Camping sites with replanted grass and newly-renovated bathrooms with hairdryers and flat irons. The bathrooms are unisex, have five showers and eight toilets.

As part of the campsite, there are two park homes available to rent. The bigger Park Home is comfortable and can sleep eight people. It comes with two separate bedrooms, with double beds, two toilets, a shower and open plan kitchen/sleeping area (four single beds). There is an enclosed stoep with a built-in braai and air-conditioner.

The smaller Park Home sleeps four people and two children. It has two bedrooms (double beds), double sleeper couch, toilet/shower, enclosed stoep with a built-in braai and air-conditioner.

The Park home’s décor and kitchen are kitted out with just the basics. When staying, you must remember to bring your own braai grid and utensils, fresh water, bedding and towels.

Adventurous activities

Day visitors are welcome – come early – no bookings taken. There is a big kiddies play area and lots of space for cycling as well as day picnics. The resort does not have its own swimming pool since the dam is at their doorstep, so make sure to take bring a boat, or a floating device to enjoy your time on the water.
