Moores End: come for a day, stay forever!

With its jaw-dropping views of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains and relaxed setting, it is clear to see why the gracious hosts at Moores End, Sibs and Basil Moore, decided to leave their home in Connecticut USA put down roots here and open guest cottages on this small protea farm in the pictureesque Banhoek Valley, on the Helshoogte Pass, in Stellenbosch. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Sibs and experiencing her gracious hospitality.

On arrival at Moores End, you will drive up a fairly long and steep paved driveway to the main house. The words ‘pretty as a picture’ came to mind as I gazed in awe at the view that awaited me.

There are seven self-catering cottages. All are tastefully furnished with either one or two bedrooms, a living room with fireplace, for those cold chilly winter nights, a kitchen with fridge, stove and microwave, and a large patio with a braai area.

Each cottage sleeps between two and four guests and is very private and self-contained. There is also a safe for valuables and Wi-Fi access in the main guest house.

They offer four king-size suites with en-suite bathrooms in a separate wing of the main house. Three suites sleep two and one suite sleeps four.

Most suites have access to a balcony or patio with great mountain views. The Garden Suite is on the ground floor while the Mountain, Japonica and Corner suites are upstairs. All suites have ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes. Towels and linen are provided. There is a pool table in the guest house.

Moores End is an ideal location for exploring the three local Wine Routes-Stellebosch, Franschoek and Paarl. There are many excellent restaurants in the area, with a berry farm for afternoon tea just around the corner.

Take a walk among the proteas and fynbos, relax and unwind at the pool area, or gaze at the mountains, and for those more sporty, there is a tennis court that also overlooks the mountains.

If you would like to leave behind the hustle and bustle of traffic and the lights of the city, consider your next stay in the Winelands at Moores End. Not only will the fresh mountain air do wonders for you, but a trip to the mountains will allow you to put things into perspective and heal the soul.
